On their bandcamp webpage, Pacific Ridge Records writes, “Over-produced, hackneyed impersonations of quality artists is what nearly destroyed Pop Punk. Bright and Early is what’s going to save it.” Bias aside, the record label hits on some strong points in this description. Bright and Early’s EP Getting Through It is an elegant, intimate release that grabs the listener from the start and holds on until the end.

“Stick by Me” is a slow, acoustic track oozing with emotion. The band’s raw talent shines in this song. It sounds as if they sat down and played in front of a microphone, recording the whole thing in one simple take. “Stick by Me” is softer than the rest of the EP, but it does set the tone well. The personal, DIY feel carries on throughout the album.

After this opening track, Getting Through It swings into an upbeat set of pop-punk tracks. A stark change from “Stick by Me,” “Rule of Three” features electric guitars and drumming. With a catchy chorus and an upbeat rhythm, this is easily the highlight of Getting Through It. Even with the addition of heavier instrumentals, the songwriting stays emotional and honest.
